Sweaters for Elephants
Volunteers knitted enormous sweaters to keep elephants warm during a cold spell in India.
Last winter, elephants in India needed help staying warm. So animal keepers there called on knitters for assistance.
Staff at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center in northern India joined forces with local craftspeople in an effort to keep the animals safe during a cold spell. Now the elephants have enormous sweaters to protect them from the chill, thanks to the volunteer knitters!
Making the sweaters is a jumbo job—each one takes approximately 4 weeks to create. Let’s say a team of 4 knitters can work on 1 sweater at a time. There are enough knitters to work on 3 sweaters at once.
How many knitters are there? How long will it take them to make 18 sweaters?
